Tiki Tuesday w/ Jody Raffoul
Jody Raffoul is a Canadian singer-songwriter hailing from the Detroit-Windsor metro area. His musical journey is a testament to hard work, raw talent, and an unwavering passion for music.
Here’s a glimpse into his fascinating story:
Early Years and Musical Roots:
Jody Raffoul grew up in Leamington, a small farming town in Southern Ontario, Canada. Raised with strong family values and a tireless work ethic inherited from his parents, who toiled in tomato fields during hot Ontario summers and worked in tomato processing factories in the fall. At the age of 15, Raffoul purchased his first guitar from a neighbor, and his dedication to learning the craft was fueled by the same work ethic instilled in him by his upbringing. Although largely self-taught, there are tales of him receiving valuable lessons from his neighbor, Uncle Morris, on the porch of Wigle Street. His musical journey began with his first gig at the Village Inn Hotel in Leamington when he was just 17.The Trenches and Local Success:
Raffoul’s vocal versatility allowed him to cover iconic rock legends like Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Steve Marriott, Paul McCartney, and Paul Rodgers. He gained a solid following within the local music scene, and bars competed to book his band, The Bad Apples, which he co-founded with his cousin Ron Raffoul. The Bad Apples dominated the local music scene in the late '80s and early '90s, performing renditions of classic rock hits by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and Bad Company.Original Material and Notable Tracks:
Raffoul didn’t rest on his laurels. He recorded his first self-titled CD of original material, which he sold out of the trunk of his car at gigs. Songs like “Dreamer” and “Color of Tears” showcased his soulful melodic side, while tracks like “Homeland” and “Hamburg” revealed his raw, gritty, and powerful songwriting. “Hamburg,” a song about paying dues in the music industry, would prove prophetic.Continued Success and Collaborations:
Raffoul’s second album, “Simple Life”, released in 1999, featured mostly one-take acoustic songs. The title track became a fan favorite, and the nostalgic “Grabtime” reflected his memories of growing up in small-town Canada. His popularity extended beyond local borders, especially in the Detroit music scene. He shared the stage with rock legends like Paul Rodgers, John Entwistle, and The Allman Brothers.Recent Work and Legacy:
With five studio albums to his name, including the 2018 release “9 Wigle Street”, Jody Raffoul continues to captivate audiences with his heartfelt music. He has opened for renowned acts such as Collective Soul, Bon Jovi, Nickelback, and Bryan Adams. In summary, Jody Raffoul’s journey from Leamington to international stages exemplifies the power of dedication, authenticity, and a love for creating music that resonates with listeners. 🎶🎤🎸

Orbitsuns
Saturday June 29th
Saturday Night Live Music
Presents - Orbitsuns
Riding their tired old horses across Detroit, their saddlebags stuffed with bourbon, Coney Island hotdogs and worn Johnny Cash cassettes, are the Orbitsuns, the Motor City’s finest purveyors of low down and dirty outlaw country. Summoning the spirits of all of their brethren, the Orbitsuns are as outrageous as Iggy, as blue collar as Seger, as dark as Alice, as revolutionary as the MC5 and as boundary crossing as the Kid. This is country, folks, but not as you know it. Front man Vinnie Dombroski made his name with alt-‐rock giants Sponge in the ‘90s, smashing into the charts with hits like “Plowed” and “Molly (16 Candles)”. Sponge were formed out of the ashes of the hard rock band Loudhouse, and they were signed to Sony Records for their first two albums (Rotting Piñata and Wax Ecstatic) and were the opening band on the first night of the Kiss reunion tour in 1996. That band is still a going concern proving that the singer is as prolific as he is talented. It was 1996 when Dombroski discovered his talent for writing fire n’ brimstone, honky-‐tonk hoe-‐down from Hell cow-‐punk music, and before long he found himself with a gun case full of songs that would shake the dust from the oldest Stetson, but wouldn’t fit comfortably Sponge’s repertoire. The obvious solution was to form a new band entirely, one that could roam from dive bar to social club, avoiding the spit n’ sawdust on the floors to bring the party to everyone from the hipsters to the ignored. The band, completed by Jimmy Paluzzi on drums,Bob Hecker on
bass,Jeremy “Leroy”Bilitz on guitar and Liz Fornal on vocals are one of the hardest working in Detroit, and in this town that’s really saying something. Their debut album Redneck Disco was originally released in 2001, simultaneously introducing the world to a band which had been honing it’s incendiary live show since it’s inception a couple of years before. That album, which was re-‐released in 2008 as Redneck Disco Revisited, featured such slabs of whisky-‐soaked Michigan mayhem as the self-‐explanatory “Long Line of Sinners”, a dirty cover of Johnny Cash’s “Boy Named Sue”, “La De Da” (a song which celebrates the fact that nobody would want to live next door to these reprobates) and “Haul Ass”, the latter being the Orbitsuns’ call to arms.

Orbitsuns
Friday August 23rd

Tiki Tuesday w/ Jody Raffoul
Tuesday August 27th

Sunday September 1st
MOTOR CITY JOSH - FINDING A NEW GEAR
FINDING A NEW GEAR is the 13th album from Detroit’s veteran blues
journeyman, Motor City Josh. Born in Warren, MI to a musical family,
Joshua Steven Ford was the eldest son of parents who were both preachers.
As a youngster, Ford showed interest in the guitar and by the age of 19 he was
earning a living as a full-time musician. HIs earliest heroes included legendary
artists such as Howlin’ Wolf, Albert Collins, and Taj Mahal - all of whose
influences still ring in the echoes of Ford’s best work.
An accomplished songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and renowned slide
guitarist, Motor City Josh spent over 15 years (2000 - 2015) touring
relentlessly throughout the 48 contiguous states. He and his bandmates
logged hundreds of thousands of miles riding up and down the highways and
byways of America. In the process, they amassed a loyal following throughout
the south and all along the east coast - traveling from Key West, FL to
Rockland, ME.
In 2011, Ford opened The Sound Shop Recording Studios in Macomb, MI. In
his role as both recording engineer and producer, he has worked on more than
250 recording projects - oftentimes collaborating and co-writing songs with his
artists. He has produced recordings by up-and-coming Detroit artists such as
Jennifer Westwood and Pat Smillie. His extensive track record, his boundless
creativity, and his easy-going demeanor have made Josh and the Sound Shop
one of Metro Detroit’s finest recording studios. In 2021, Ford was awarded the
Detroit Music Award (DMA) for “Outstanding Producer”.
After taking 5 years off from the road to help raise his young children, Motor
City Josh is BACK! His latest release FINDING A NEW GEAR (which includes
several co-writes with his wife, Stacia Petrie Ford) packs the punch that his
longtime fans have come to expect! Chock full of humorous lyrics, blazing hot
guitar licks, and a skin tight backing band, FINDING A NEW GEAR is a classic
album from a veteran artist who has finally found his new gear...and, Baby, it’s
WIDE OPEN!!
